Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Little Change Made to MJ’s Rescue
01/27/2022 Posted in Movie Reviews
Sound Designer Tony Lamberti spoke to Variety about *Spider-Man: No Way Home* and the work done on the sound of Jon Watts’ film, specifically about a change to the sequence in which Andrew Garfield’s Peter saves Zendaya’s MJ.
As revealed by Lamberti:
The sequence had a huge chorus in the background, but when Tom Rothman, head of Sony, saw that cut scene, he told those present that we were belittling everything by not making that scene a real breathtaking moment.
This comment prompted Lamberti and his entire team to remove the music:
We made it a moment of sound effects only at the last second.
This is not to say that music was totally out of the question:
Andrew [Garfield] grabs it and they land. They share a moving moment and then the music returns.
